How to choose floor cleaners
What a floor cleaner does differently
A wet dry floor cleaner vacuums and washes at the same time. The roller is constantly wetted with clean water from one tank, and dirty water and debris are sucked straight into a second tank. Kärcher describes it as continuous wetting of the rollers from the fresh-water tank while dirt is collected in the dirty-water tank. That's why floor cleaners don't spread dirty water around, which a classic mop does after the first room.
Parquet and laminate
Floor cleaners work on tiles, vinyl, laminate and sealed parquet. Tineco says its machines are for non-carpet floors such as vinyl, tiles and sealed wood floors. For sealed parquet and laminate, Kärcher recommends its RM 534 detergent, and RM 535 for oiled or waxed wood, and advises keeping the machine moving. According to Stiftung Warentest, some manufacturers exclude unsealed floors because they are sensitive to moisture. If you have untreated or very old wood, ask the floor manufacturer.
Self-cleaning and roller drying
Almost every current model rinses its roller in the dock after cleaning. The difference is the water temperature and whether the roller is dried with hot air. A wet roller sitting in the dock starts to smell sooner. The Roborock F25 LT rinses with 90 °C water, the Dreame H15 Mix with 100 °C and the Dreame H14 Pro with 60 °C. The Bissell CrossWave HF2 and Eureka NEW400 Gen 2 self-clean but don't dry with hot air.
Odour and the dirty water tank
In its F25 LT Gen 2 description, Roborock says the separation module should be rinsed thoroughly to avoid residue and unpleasant odours. Our advice: empty and rinse the dirty water tank after every clean, and let the filter and roller dry completely. Tineco also says the Floor ONE S5 filter must be dry before it goes back in.
Detergents
Use only the manufacturer's detergent. Bissell warns that vinegar, bleach, dish soap and other non-Bissell products can damage the machine and that such damage isn't covered by the warranty. Tineco doesn't recommend third-party detergents because they can foam too much, or bleach. Don't put hot water in the tank: Tineco allows 4 to 40 °C.
Carpets
The floor cleaners in this comparison are designed for hard floors. Tineco states explicitly that the Floor ONE should not be used on carpets. The Dreame H15 Mix has a handheld attachment for carpet stains, but the main head is for hard floors. For carpets, see our carpet cleaners.
Floor cleaner or robot mop
A robot mop works on its own but uses pads that the dock rinses between passes. Floor cleaners wash with clean water every time and suck up the dirty water straight away, so they're better on dried-on stains, but you push them. Our comparison of robot vacuums with mopping covers the robots.
What the tests say
Stiftung Warentest tested nine cordless floor-washing devices from 230 to 1,450 euros in issue 7/2025 (published 19 June 2025). Only three were rated "gut" (good), and two "mangelhaft" (poor). The individual ratings are behind a paywall, so we don't attribute them to the models in this comparison.
1. Tineco Floor ONE S7 Stretch Ultra
Photo: Tineco, Amazon
The Tineco Floor ONE S7 Stretch Ultra is our pick for most households. For 249.00 euros you get FlashDry self-cleaning with hot water and hot-air roller drying at 85 °C for 5 minutes. According to Tineco, suction is 21 kPa and the dirty water tank holds 0.72 l.
It lies flat to 180°, so it gets under beds and cabinets, and it cleans edges on both sides of the head. DualBlock double scrapers stop long hair and pet hair wrapping around the roller. The Amazon listing gives the battery as 50 minutes and Tineco as 75 minutes. Weight isn't published.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Power | battery |
| Runtime | 50 min (Amazon) / 75 min (Tineco) |
| Suction | 21 kPa |
| Dirty water tank | 0.72 l |
| Self-cleaning | FlashDry, drying 85 °C, 5 min |
| Edges | both sides |
| Lie-flat | 180° |
| Price | 249.00 € |
Pros: hot-air roller drying, edges on both sides, lies completely flat, scrapers against hair wrap.
Cons: manufacturer and Amazon give different runtimes, hard floors only, weight not published.
Our opinion: It's hard to get more for 249 euros. Drying at 85 °C fixes a typical problem with floor cleaners: a roller that smells after a couple of days.
2. Roborock F25 LT
Photo: Roborock, Amazon
The Roborock F25 LT is a budget model with features usually found on pricier ones: self-cleaning with 90 °C water and hot-air drying. For 189.99 euros, the listing promises up to 60 minutes of runtime and 20,000 Pa of suction. According to the listing, it cleans to within 1 mm of the wall.
It lies flat to 180° and is 12.5 cm thick. A double scraper stops hair wrapping. This is the first generation: Roborock's page for it is no longer available, and Amazon also lists the F25 LT Gen 2, currently more expensive. Tank capacity and weight aren't published.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Power | battery |
| Runtime | up to 60 min |
| Suction | 20,000 Pa |
| Self-cleaning | 90 °C water + hot-air drying |
| Edges | to 1 mm from the wall (listing) |
| Lie-flat | 180°, 12.5 cm |
| Tanks | not published |
| Price | 189.99 € |
Pros: hot self-cleaning and drying under 200 euros, 60 minutes of runtime, cleans close to the wall.
Cons: first generation, tanks and weight not published.
Our opinion: If you don't want to spend 250 euros, this is the model that cuts the fewest corners on roller hygiene. For a large house, check whether 60 minutes is enough.
3. Dreame H15 Mix
Photo: Dreame, Amazon
The Dreame H15 Mix is the most expensive and best-equipped model in the comparison: 529.00 euros. According to the listing, the AI DescendReach robotic arm lowers to clean right up to the wall. The roller is washed with 100 °C water and dried with 90 °C hot air for 5 minutes.
Suction is 23,000 Pa, and the swappable battery lasts up to 65 minutes of washing or 75 minutes of vacuuming. The "7-in-1" kit includes a handheld vacuum with attachments, so it also replaces a classic stick vacuum. Detergent is dosed from 1:200 to 1:30 based on a dirt sensor. Tank capacity and the machine's weight aren't published.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Power | swappable battery |
| Runtime | up to 65 min washing / 75 min vacuuming |
| Suction | 23,000 Pa |
| Self-cleaning | 100 °C water, 90 °C drying, 5 min |
| Edges | AI DescendReach robotic arm |
| Extras | handheld vacuum, carpet stain attachment |
| Dosing | automatic, 1:200 to 1:30 |
| Price | 529.00 € |
Pros: best edge cleaning in the comparison, hottest roller wash, also replaces a stick vacuum.
Cons: most expensive, more parts to maintain, tanks and weight not published.
Our opinion: If you want one device for the whole flat, with a handheld vacuum and floor washing, this is the logical choice. If you only have tiles, you'll pay for features you don't need.
4. Dreame H14 Pro
Photo: Dreame, Amazon
The Dreame H14 Pro is for anyone who wants smart features in the mid range: 229.00 euros. It has a 120 ml detergent tank with automatic dosing based on how dirty the floor is, and the DreameHome app. Suction is 18,000 Pa.
It lies flat to 180° and, according to the listing, fits into gaps 14 cm high. The roller turns at 520 rpm and cleans edges on both sides. Self-cleaning uses 60 °C water followed by 5 minutes of drying; the air temperature isn't stated. Runtime and tank capacities aren't published in the listing.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Power | battery |
| Runtime | not published |
| Suction | 18,000 Pa |
| Self-cleaning | 60 °C water + 5 min drying |
| Detergent | 120 ml tank, auto dosing |
| Edges | both sides |
| App | DreameHome |
| Price | 229.00 € |
Pros: automatic detergent dosing, app, lies completely flat, edges on both sides.
Cons: self-cleaning only 60 °C, runtime and tanks not published.
Our opinion: If you don't want to measure detergent, this is the cheapest model with automatic dosing in the selection. For roller hygiene, the Roborock rinses hotter (90 °C) and the Tineco dries with 85 °C air.
5. Bissell CrossWave HF2 3845N
Photo: Bissell, Amazon
The Bissell CrossWave HF2 3845N is the only corded model in the comparison, so there's no battery to wear out and no waiting to charge. For 179.99 euros you get a 7.74 m cord, 340 W of power and 0.58 l tanks for clean and dirty water. According to Bissell, it's for hard floors only and can also be used on wood.
It has an automatic self-cleaning cycle, but no hot-air drying. At 74.3 dB it's louder than most cordless models. A 236 ml bottle of Bissell detergent is included, and damage from other detergents isn't covered by the warranty.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Power | 7.74 m cord, 340 W |
| Runtime | unlimited |
| Tanks | 0.58 l clean + 0.58 l dirty water |
| Self-cleaning | automatic cycle, no drying |
| Noise | 74.3 dB |
| Floors | hard floors only |
| Price | 179.99 € |
Pros: no battery, unlimited runtime, simple, affordable.
Cons: cord, no hot-air drying, louder, Bissell detergents only.
Our opinion: For a large house with lots of tiles, where a 30-minute battery would be too short, the cord is an advantage. In a small flat, a cordless model is more practical.
6. Philips AquaTrio 7000 XW7110/01
Photo: Philips, Amazon
The Philips AquaTrio 7000 XW7110/01 has a different head from the rest: two fast-spinning AquaSpin brushes that clean themselves as they work. For 199.90 euros, the listing promises up to 30 minutes, enough for about 180 m². It's good on dried-on stains in the kitchen.
PowerCyclone Aqua separates wet and dry dirt into the dirty water tank. It has three modes: normal wet, intensive wet and a water pick-up mode. It has automatic self-cleaning; hot-air drying isn't stated. Tank capacities and weight aren't published in the listing.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Power | battery |
| Runtime | up to 30 min, up to 180 m² |
| Head | AquaSpin, 2 spinning brushes |
| Modes | normal, intensive, water pick-up |
| Self-cleaning | automatic |
| Hot-air drying | not stated |
| Price | 199.90 € |
Pros: two brushes for stubborn stains, mode for picking up leftover water, nimble around chair legs.
Cons: only 30 minutes, drying not stated, key figures not published.
Our opinion: For a kitchen and a smaller flat with lots of food stains, two brushes are useful. For more than 180 m², the battery is too short.
7. Eureka NEW400 Gen 2
Photo: Eureka, Amazon
The Eureka NEW400 Gen 2 is the cheapest and lightest of the floor cleaners in the comparison: 139.99 euros and 3.95 kg according to the listing. It has a 600 ml clean water tank and a 400 ml dirty water tank. It's self-propelled, so it takes little effort to push.
You start self-cleaning by holding a button for 3 seconds, and there's no hot-air drying. The machine switches off when the dirty water tank is full or when it stands upright. According to the manufacturer, it recovers more than 90 % of the dirty water. Runtime and suction aren't published. Watch the variant: there's also a first generation under a different ASIN.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Power | battery |
| Runtime | not published |
| Weight | 3.95 kg |
| Tanks | 600 ml clean + 400 ml dirty water |
| Drive | self-propelled |
| Self-cleaning | 3 s button, no drying |
| Price | 139.99 € |
Pros: lowest price, lightest in the comparison, self-propelled, auto shut-off when the tank is full.
Cons: runtime and power not published, no hot-air drying, easy to buy the wrong generation.
Our opinion: For a small flat, or if a light machine matters to you, this one is enough. Just plan on taking the roller out and drying it yourself after cleaning.
Conclusion: which floor cleaners to choose?
For most households the best choice is the Tineco Floor ONE S7 Stretch Ultra at 249.00 euros, thanks to 85 °C roller drying and edges on both sides. The Roborock F25 LT gives hot self-cleaning and 60 minutes of runtime for under 200 euros, and the Dreame H15 Mix is best for edges and replaces a classic vacuum. Corded floor cleaners like the Bissell CrossWave HF2 make sense for large houses, and the lightest and cheapest is the Eureka NEW400 Gen 2.

Frequently asked questions
Can floor cleaners be used on parquet?
On sealed parquet and laminate, yes. Tineco lists sealed wood floors, and Kärcher has a dedicated detergent for them. Some manufacturers exclude unsealed floors because of moisture, so for untreated or oiled wood, check the instructions from your floor and machine manufacturers.
Why does my floor cleaner smell?
Usually because of dirty water left in the tank and a damp roller. Empty and rinse the dirty water tank after every clean, and let the roller and filter dry completely. Models with hot-air drying, like those from Tineco, Roborock and Dreame, help here.
Can I use vinegar or my own detergent?
Better not. Bissell says vinegar, bleach and dish soap can damage the machine and such damage isn't covered by the warranty. Tineco doesn't recommend third-party detergents because they foam too much. Use the manufacturer's detergent and cold or lukewarm water.
Can floor cleaners wash carpets?
The models in this comparison are for hard floors. Tineco states explicitly that the Floor ONE isn't for carpets. The Dreame H15 Mix has a handheld attachment for carpet stains, but for deep carpet cleaning you need a carpet cleaner.
How long does the battery last?
It depends on the model and mode: the Philips AquaTrio 7000 up to 30 minutes, the Roborock F25 LT up to 60 minutes, the Dreame H15 Mix up to 65 minutes of washing. Philips says its 30 minutes cover up to 180 m²; for a bigger house, choose a longer battery or a corded model.
Is a floor cleaner or a robot mop better?
A floor cleaner is better on dried-on stains because it keeps washing with clean water and sucks up the dirty water straight away, but you have to push it. A robot mop works by itself and is good for daily upkeep, and you reach for the floor cleaner when something gets spilled.
How we tested
We chose these floor cleaners by self-cleaning and roller drying, battery runtime, edge cleaning, tanks, availability of data and price. We reviewed 10 models available on Amazon.de and checked every ASIN through Amazon's API. Data comes from the manufacturers' websites and the Amazon listings; where they differ, we give both. Guidance on floors, detergents and carpets comes from Tineco, Kärcher and Bissell. We left out the Kärcher FC 8 Smart Signature Line because its listing describes it as "Wischen ohne Saugen" (mopping without vacuuming), plus the Bissell CrossWave Edge Cordless and Vileda PureClean S5. Prices are live Amazon.de prices from 30 October 2026. We did not physically test the machines.
