Carports on Amazon.de cost from 262.19 euros for the 6 x 4 m PEILU tent carport to 1,742.95 euros for the Sunjoy metal carport with a published snow load. This guide is for homeowners without a garage who want to protect their car from sun, rain and snow but aren't sure whether they need a tent, a metal structure or a permit. The best carports of 2027 are the TOOLPORT Zeltgarage PE 600 N as a closed tent garage for 299.00 euros, the TOOLPORT Zeltgarage PVC 800 N as the sturdiest year-round tent (820.00 euros) and the Home Deluxe MONOS as a permanent 15 m² carport (899.00 euros). We compared seven models using live prices from 31 October 2026.

Measure your yard and check the footprint before you buy. Croatian rules allow a car shelter of up to 20 m² on the plot of an existing house without a permit, and several models in this comparison are bigger; rules in your country may differ.

How to choose carports

Do you need a permit

Under Croatia's Ordinance on simple and other buildings and works (NN 112/2017, Art. 2), a "free-standing or structurally connected shelter with a footprint of up to 20 m², outside the footprint of the existing building" can be built without a building permit or main design. It must be on the plot of an existing building and serve that building. Notice of construction start (Art. 6) is required only for buildings under Art. 4 and works under Art. 5, not for a shelter under Art. 2.

For a single-storey auxiliary building up to 50 m², Art. 4 requires a main design and a notice of construction start (Art. 6), but no permit. The ordinance doesn't mention tent garages, so we couldn't confirm whether a closed tent falls under the shelter rule or the auxiliary building rule. The ordinance has been amended since 2017. Under Art. 1 nothing may be built against the spatial plan, and boundary distances and other limits come from the local spatial plan. For anything above 20 m² or closed, ask the local building department. Outside Croatia, check your own country's rules.

Tent or metal carport

Tent carports are cheaper and can be taken down, but the tarp wears out over time, and PEILU advises taking light PE tarps off in storms. Metal carports cost more and need firm anchoring, but have a sheet-metal or polycarbonate roof. Only Sunjoy in this comparison publishes loads: wind up to 80 km/h and snow up to 80 kg/m². Even that isn't enough for spots exposed to the bora.

PE or PVC tarp

According to German Wikipedia, PVC tarps are generally more durable and tear-resistant, but stiffer and more expensive than PE tarps. TOOLPORT lists a figure in newtons with the tarp (450, 600, 700, 800 N). That is the tarp's tear strength, not its weight per square metre, so a higher number means a stronger tarp.

Snow, wind and anchoring

PEILU's listing says to remove the tarp in a storm and leave the frame, and to clear snow from the roof regularly. For anchoring, it says to tension all four corners with guy ropes at 45° and anchor every post, using extra anchors or weights on concrete or paving. We couldn't open the ShelterLogic and TOOLPORT instructions, but the same rule makes sense for any tent.

Hail

The Sunjoy and Home Deluxe MONOS metal carports explicitly claim hail protection, and PEILU mentions it for its PE tent. No product publishes a hail resistance class. With a tent that doesn't explicitly claim it, don't count on hail protection, and for a car parked outside also see car covers with hail padding.

Height for an SUV or van

Entrance height isn't published for most models, and carports are often bought precisely for an SUV. ShelterLogic lists a 300 x 200 cm entrance, PEILU and Sunjoy are about 3 m tall overall, and Amazon gives the TOOLPORT Lagerzelt 200 cm without saying whether that is total or side height. For a van or a car with a roof box, measure the height before ordering.

Condensation

In a closed tent, moisture collects under the tarp, so carports with walls need ventilation. PEILU has vents against condensation, and TOOLPORT has gable ends with vent flaps or a window. Leave the ventilation open and don't park a wet car in a fully closed tent for long.

1. TOOLPORT Zeltgarage PE 600 N

The TOOLPORT Zeltgarage 3.3 x 6.2 m PE 600 N (item 8065) is our pick for most buyers. For 299.00 euros you get a closed tent garage with a PE tarp rated at 600 N tear strength, welded seams and a one-piece roof tarp. Height is about 245 cm according to Amazon's data.

The frame is powder-coated steel tubing with connectors of about 38 mm, bolted together. The front gable has a zipped entrance, and the gables can be partly or fully left off, so the tent also works as an open carport. Ground pegs are included. At about 20.5 m², it's just over the 20 m² limit in the Croatian ordinance.

Pros: closed garage for under 300 euros, clearly stated tarp strength, removable gables, welded seams.

Cons: just over 20 m², powder-coated rather than galvanised frame, snow and wind loads not published.

Our opinion: Of all the carports in the selection, this one offers the best balance of enclosed space, tarp strength and price. If the 20 m² limit matters for your permit, consider the 3.3 x 6 m PVC version.

2. TOOLPORT Zeltgarage PVC 800 N

The TOOLPORT Zeltgarage 3.3 x 6 m PVC 800 N (item 58449) is the sturdiest tent in the comparison. The frame is a fully galvanised rectangular profile of about 45 x 32 mm with a 1.2 mm wall, and the tarp is PVC with 800 N tear strength. The seller cites tested statics and guarantees for wind and snow loads, but specific figures aren't in the listing.

At 19.8 m², it stays under the 20 m² limit. Height is about 270 cm according to Amazon's data, and the gable has a zipped entrance and a vent window. Ground pegs and storm bracing are included. At about 140 kg, assembly takes longer.

Pros: heaviest tent structure in the comparison, PVC tarp for year-round use, under 20 m².

Cons: more expensive than PE tents, heavy and slow to assemble, snow and wind figures not in the listing.

Our opinion: If the tent stays up through winter, the better profile and tarp are worth the extra money. For summer and autumn, the PE version is enough.

3. ShelterLogic Garage-in-a-Box Rountop

The ShelterLogic Garage-in-a-Box Rountop 370 x 610 x 240 cm (62780) is a tent garage from a well-known brand, on Amazon since 2012. For 499.00 euros it has the only published entrance size in the comparison: 300 x 200 cm, enough for most SUVs. The tarp is waterproof, UV-resistant PE.

The frame is coated, rust-resistant steel, joined with nuts and bolts. Straps for tensioning the tarp are included, but ground anchors aren't listed in the Amazon description. At about 22.6 m², it's over the 20 m² limit. Snow and wind loads aren't published.

Pros: wide entrance for an SUV, known brand, fully enclosed.

Cons: over 20 m², PE rather than PVC tarp, anchors and loads not listed.

Our opinion: For an SUV this is the safer choice, since only ShelterLogic publishes its entrance size. Buy ground anchors along with the tent.

4. Home Deluxe Carport MONOS

The Home Deluxe Carport MONOS 500 x 300 cm (75568) is a proper carport for permanent installation by the house. For 899.00 euros you get a steel and aluminium structure with reinforced roof beams and a roof of light-transmitting polycarbonate panels. The seller describes it as hail-proof ("hagelsicher"), without stating a class.

At 15 m² it's the smallest in the comparison and easily stays under the 20 m² limit, if the other conditions are met. Height is about 250 cm according to Amazon's data, so check the dimensions for a tall van. Snow and wind loads and the type of foundation aren't published in the listing.

Pros: permanent carport under 20 m², light-transmitting roof, seller claims hail resistance.

Cons: loads not published, about 2.5 m tall, foundation and anchoring not described.

Our opinion: For a house where a tent wouldn't look right, this is a tidy solution that fits the 20 m² rule. If you live in the mountains, ask the seller for the snow load before buying.

5. Sunjoy A110000400

The Sunjoy A110000400 is the only model in the comparison with published loads: according to the seller, it withstands wind up to 80 km/h and snow up to 80 kg/m². For 1,742.95 euros you get a 6.1 x 3.67 x 3.01 m metal carport with a galvanised steel roof which, according to the seller, blocks 99.9 % of UV radiation and protects against rain and hail.

The posts are 10 cm thick and the roof supports are triangle-reinforced. The carport is open on all sides and has a hook rated for 15 kg. At about 22.4 m², it's over 20 m², and it weighs about 294 kg according to Amazon's data. Foundation and anchoring aren't described in the listing.

Pros: only model with published loads, steel roof against hail and UV, about 3 m tall for SUVs and pickups.

Cons: most expensive, over 20 m², 80 km/h isn't enough for a strong bora.

Our opinion: If hail is your main reason for buying, a steel roof is safer than any tarp. The price and a footprint over 20 m² mean you should talk to your local authority before buying.

6. PEILU Carport 6x4 m

The PEILU Carport 6x4 m (ZP02825WH) is the cheapest model in the comparison: 262.19 euros. It's 4 m wide and about 305 cm tall overall according to Amazon's data (entrance height isn't published), so it's aimed at SUVs, vans and trailers. The roof tarp is 200 g/m² PE, and the side walls are 150 g/m² and removable.

The frame is galvanised steel tubing with a triangulated structure; tube diameter and wall thickness aren't published. PEILU has the clearest instructions in its description: remove the tarp in a storm, clear snow regularly, tension all four corners at 45°. Anchors and storm ropes are included, and vents reduce condensation. At 24 m², it's over 20 m².

Pros: lowest price, width and height for SUVs and vans, clearest storm and snow instructions.

Cons: 24 m², light PE tarp that has to come off in storms, no tube data.

Our opinion: For a van or a car with a roof box, this is the cheapest way to get enough height. Expect to take the tarp off every time strong wind is forecast.

7. TOOLPORT Lagerzelt PVC 700 N

The TOOLPORT Lagerzelt 3 x 6 m PVC 700 N (item 2332) is a storage tent that easily turns into an open carport. The side walls fit in individually at 2 m spacing, so you can leave one or both sides open. For 434.90 euros you get a PVC tarp with 700 N tear strength, and at 18 m² it stays under 20 m².

The frame is steel tubing of about 38 mm with connectors of about 42 mm and through-bolts. Guy ropes, pegs and assembly tools are included. The seller describes it for temporary use, and Amazon gives a height of 200 cm without saying whether that's side or total height.

Pros: easily becomes an open carport, PVC tarp under 450 euros, under 20 m².

Cons: seller describes it for temporary use, unclear height, no snow or wind data.

Our opinion: Of all the tents in the selection, this one opens most easily on one or both sides, and PVC tarps are generally more durable than PE. For an SUV, check the height with the seller first.

Conclusion: which carports to choose?

For most buyers the best choice is the TOOLPORT Zeltgarage PE 600 N at 299.00 euros, a closed garage from a serious manufacturer. If the tent stays up in winter, the TOOLPORT PVC 800 N has the sturdiest structure and stays under 20 m². The permanent carports are the Home Deluxe MONOS (15 m²) and the Sunjoy, the only one with published snow and wind loads. For SUVs there's the ShelterLogic with a 300 x 200 cm entrance and the PEILU at about 3 m tall.

Do you need a permit for a carport?

Under Croatia's Ordinance NN 112/2017 (Art. 2), a shelter of up to 20 m² on the plot of an existing building and serving it can be built without a building permit or main design. Larger or closed versions may fall under different rules, and the spatial plan can add limits. Ask your local building department; other countries have their own rules.

Does a tent garage protect against hail?

Don't count on it unless the manufacturer explicitly says so. The Sunjoy and Home Deluxe MONOS metal carports claim hail protection, but no product publishes a resistance class. With a tent, it's better to also use a car cover with foam padding.

How much snow can a carport take?

Of the models compared, only Sunjoy publishes a figure: up to 80 kg/m² of snow. For tents, no figures are published, and PEILU advises clearing snow from the roof regularly. Don't let snow build up on the tarp.

How do you anchor a tent garage?

Anchor every post and tension the corners with storm ropes, at 45° according to PEILU. On concrete or paving, use extra ground anchors or weights. When a storm is forecast, PEILU advises removing the tarp and leaving only the frame.

PE or PVC tarp?

PVC tarps are generally more durable and tear-resistant, but stiffer and more expensive. PE is lighter and cheaper, fine for seasonal use. With TOOLPORT tents, the figure in newtons (600 N, 800 N) is the tarp's tear strength.

What size is enough for an SUV?

For an SUV, look for an entrance at least 3 m wide and tall enough for your car. ShelterLogic lists a 300 x 200 cm entrance, and PEILU and Sunjoy are about 3 m tall overall. Entrance height isn't published for most tents, so check with the seller.

We reviewed 10 models available on Amazon.de and checked every ASIN through Amazon's API. Data comes from the Amazon listings because the manufacturers' websites didn't load. Building rules come from the original text of Ordinance NN 112/2017; we couldn't verify amendments made after 2017.
