Beard trimmers on Amazon.de cost from 27.70 euros for the Philips BT3619 to 128.99 euros for the Braun Series 9 BT9560 with 12 barber accessories. This guide is for men with a short or full beard, and for anyone looking for a gift, who aren't sure what a 0.2 mm step means, whether a trimmer needs oil, or how short to cut 3-day stubble. The best beard trimmers of 2027 are the Philips BT7670 as the best balance of precision and price (75.00 euros), the Braun Series 9 BT9560 as the best equipped (128.99 euros) and the Philips BT5765 as the best buy under 50 euros (41.99 euros). We compared seven models with live prices on 2 November 2026.
If you want a completely smooth shave, you need a shaver, not a trimmer. A trimmer cuts the beard to a set length and never shaves as close to the skin.

How to choose beard trimmers
Range and length step
Beard trimmers differ mainly in their length step, which tells you how precisely you can set your beard. The Philips BT5765 and BT7670 have 40 settings in 0.2 mm steps, and the Braun BT9560 has 0.25 mm steps (Philips). For a short beard a fine step matters, because a 0.5 mm difference on a 2 mm beard really shows. For a full beard, range matters more: most models go up to 20 mm, and the Panasonic ER-GB86 up to 30 mm.
Which length for which beard
For neat stubble, Braun suggests 1 to 3 mm and advises starting at 3 mm and going down in 0.5 mm steps (Braun). Ten-day stubble is about 4 to 5 mm, a short neat beard about 10 mm, and for a longer beard you use the 10.5 to 20 mm comb (Braun). Philips gives the lowest setting of 0.4 to 0.5 mm for 3-day stubble. Always start with a longer setting, because what's cut doesn't come back.
Neckline and cheek line
Beard trimmers are most useful for outlines. Braun advises setting the neckline two fingers above the Adam's apple, roughly where imaginary lines from the earlobes meet (Braun). Trim or shave everything below that line without a comb. Philips advises leaving the cheek line natural, and for a sharper look drawing a straight or slightly curved line down to the bottom of the sideburns. Detail trimmers and the mini shaver heads on the Braun BT9560 and BT7525 are useful for this.
Battery and charging
Cordless beard trimmers today run for 50 to 180 minutes: the Braun BT9560 runs for up to 180 minutes, the Philips BT7670 up to 120, and the Panasonic and Remington only 50. The Philips BT5765 and BT7670 charge in an hour and have a 5-minute quick charge for one trim (the BT3619 needs 4 hours), but come with a USB-A cable and no adapter. Heat and long periods at 100% do lithium-ion batteries the most harm (Battery University via Seacomp), so don't leave the trimmer on the charger all the time if you won't use it for a while.
Blade care
All beard trimmers need clean blades, but not all need oil: according to the maker, Philips's self-sharpening metal blades work without it. Wahl advises brushing its trimmers after every use and 1 to 2 drops of blade oil about once a month (Wahl). Rinse waterproof models under the tap, because clogged blades wear out faster. Never put hair oil or solvents on the blades.
Sensitive skin and ingrown hairs
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says ingrown hairs form when coarse, curly hairs are cut too short and curl back into the skin, and a dull blade raises the risk further (AAD). For this problem, University of Iowa Hospitals recommends trimming to 0.5 to 1 mm instead of shaving smooth (UIHC). So beard trimmers are a good choice for men who get red bumps after shaving. The Philips BT3619 has rounded blade tips that are gentler on the skin.
1. Braun Series 9 BT9560
Photo: Braun, Amazon
The Braun Series 9 BT9560 is the best equipped trimmer in this comparison: it comes with 12 barber accessories, according to the Amazon title. Length is set with a PrecisionWheel in 0.25 mm steps, with a lock that stops accidental changes, and the combs cover 0.5 to 10 and 10.5 to 20 mm. The ProBlade metal blade and PowerBoost mode add power for thicker beards.
The battery runs for up to 180 minutes, the longest in this comparison, and the trimmer is fully waterproof. Braun doesn't publish a charging time; retailers list about 2.5 hours for the near-identical BT9520. A maximum of 20 mm isn't enough for a very long beard. At 128.99 euros it's the most expensive in this comparison.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Range | 0.5-10 and 10.5-20 mm (combs) |
| Step | 0.25 mm, wheel lock |
| Blade | ProBlade metal |
| Battery | up to 180 min, charging about 2.5 h (retailers, for the BT9520) |
| Waterproof | 100%, shower-safe |
| Accessories | 12 barber tools (Amazon title) |
| Price | 128.99 € |
Pros: finest step among the Braun models, longest battery, most accessories, length lock.
Cons: most expensive in this comparison, 20 mm maximum, charging time not officially stated.
Our opinion: The BT9560 is the trimmer for men who groom their beard every day and want everything in one box. As a gift it makes an impression, and for a bearded man it's a tool for every day.
2. Philips BT7670
Photo: Philips, Amazon
The Philips Beard Trimmer 7000 BT7670 has 40 settings in 0.2 mm steps, from 0.4 to 20 mm. According to Philips, its BeardSense technology scans beard density 125 times a second and boosts power, and the self-sharpening metal blades need no oil. A hair collector catches up to 80% of cut hairs, so there's less mess in the bathroom.
The battery runs for up to 120 minutes, charges in an hour, and a 5-minute quick charge is enough for one trim. The box includes a detail trimmer, a wide T-trimmer, a stand and a case, and Philips gives up to 5 years' warranty with registration. The cable is USB-A, with no adapter.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Range | 0.4-20 mm |
| Step | 0.2 mm, 40 settings |
| Blades | self-sharpening metal, no oil |
| Battery | up to 120 min, 1 h charge, 5 min quick |
| Hair collector | up to 80% |
| Warranty | up to 5 years with registration |
| Price | 75.00 € |
Pros: precise 0.2 mm step, hair collector, quick charge, wide trimmer for outlines, long warranty.
Cons: USB-A cable with no adapter, collector makes it bulkier, 20 mm maximum.
Our opinion: Of all the beard trimmers in this comparison, the BT7670 gives the most precision for the money. For most men with a short or medium beard, it's the best buy.
3. Philips BT5765
Photo: Philips, Amazon
The Philips Beard Trimmer 5000 BT5765 has the same key precision as the 7000 series: 40 settings in 0.2 mm steps, from 0.4 to 20 mm, BeardSense and a hair collector. The self-sharpening metal blades need no oil, and the trimmer is waterproof. At 41.99 euros it's the best buy under 50 euros.
The battery runs for up to 100 minutes instead of 120, charges in an hour and has a 5-minute quick charge. It has no stand or wide T-trimmer like the BT7670, and the cable is USB-A with no adapter. Philips again gives up to 5 years' warranty with registration.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Range | 0.4-20 mm |
| Step | 0.2 mm, 40 settings |
| Blades | self-sharpening metal, no oil |
| Battery | up to 100 min, 1 h charge, 5 min quick |
| Hair collector | yes |
| Warranty | up to 5 years with registration |
| Price | 41.99 € |
Pros: almost the same key features as the 7000 series for just over half the price, 0.2 mm step, BeardSense and hair collector.
Cons: no stand or wide trimmer, 100 instead of 120 minutes, USB-A with no adapter.
Our opinion: The BT5765 is the trimmer we'd buy for ourselves. Most men won't notice the 33-euro difference to the 7000 series.
4. Braun Series 7 BT7525
Photo: Braun, Amazon
The Braun Series 7 BT7525 has 40 settings in 0.5 mm steps up to 20 mm, with a wheel lock. Its biggest advantage is a precision shaver head for clean cheek and neck edges, so you don't need a separate shaver. The ProBlade metal blade and AutoSense adjust power to beard density.
The battery runs for up to 120 minutes, and the trimmer is fully waterproof. The 0.5 mm step is coarser than Philips's 0.2 mm, and there's no hair collector. Braun doesn't publish the exact charging time for this model.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Range | 0.5-20 mm |
| Step | 0.5 mm, 40 settings, lock |
| Blade | ProBlade metal, AutoSense |
| Accessory | shaver head for edges |
| Battery | up to 120 min |
| Waterproof | 100% |
| Price | 76.66 € |
Pros: shaver head for clean edges, length lock, 120 minutes of battery, waterproof.
Cons: 0.5 mm step coarser than Philips, no hair collector, charging time not published.
Our opinion: The BT7525 is for men who care more about sharp edges than a 0.2 mm step. With its shaver head, it also replaces a small shaver.
5. Panasonic ER-GB86
Photo: Panasonic, Amazon
The Panasonic ER-GB86 has the widest range in this comparison: 58 settings from 0.5 to 30 mm, with three combs. That makes it the best choice for a full, long beard that trimmers topping out at 20 mm can't handle. A strong DC motor and wide stainless steel blades cut well through thick beards.
The battery lasts only 50 minutes, but charges in an hour, and the trimmer also runs on mains. Automatic voltage adjustment is handy for travel. There's no detail trimmer, which the pricier ER-GB96 has, and the model has been on sale since 2018.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Range | 0.5-30 mm, 58 settings |
| Motor | high-torque DC |
| Blades | stainless steel, wide |
| Battery | up to 50 min, 1 h charge, runs on mains |
| Waterproof | washable body |
| Price | 81.01 € |
Pros: widest range up to 30 mm, strong motor for thick beards, quick charge, runs on mains.
Cons: only 50 minutes of battery, no detail trimmer, older model.
Our opinion: The ER-GB86 is for beards longer than 2 cm. For a short beard, Philips is more precise and cheaper.
6. Remington MB4700
Photo: Remington, Amazon
The Remington MB4700 has the finest step in this comparison: 175 settings in 0.1 mm steps, from 0.4 to 18 mm. The comb is motorised and set on a touch screen, so you don't change attachments, and the trimmer remembers the last four settings. According to the Amazon title, Stiftung Warentest named it the test winner for gentleness on the skin.
The battery lasts only 50 minutes, and charging takes 2 hours via Micro-USB. A maximum of 18 mm isn't for a long beard. Remington gives 3 years' warranty plus an extra year with registration. At 30.45 euros it offers the most technology for the money.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Range | 0.4-18 mm |
| Step | 0.1 mm, 175 settings |
| Comb | motorised, touch screen |
| Battery | up to 50 min, 2 h charge, Micro-USB |
| Blades | titanium coated |
| Warranty | 3 + 1 years with registration |
| Price | 30.45 € |
Pros: finest 0.1 mm step, motorised comb, test winner for skin gentleness per the Amazon title, low price.
Cons: Micro-USB instead of USB-C, only 50 minutes of battery, 18 mm maximum.
Our opinion: The MB4700 is for gadget fans and men with sensitive skin. A 50-minute battery is a drawback, but you'll struggle to find more technology for 30 euros.
7. Philips BT3619
Photo: Philips, Amazon
The Philips Beard Trimmer 3000 BT3619 is the cheapest trimmer in this comparison, at 27.70 euros. It has 20 settings in 0.5 mm steps, from 0.5 to 10 mm, and self-sharpening blades with rounded tips that are gentler on the skin. It's fully waterproof and needs no oil.
The battery runs for up to 60 minutes, but charging takes 4 hours. A range up to 10 mm is enough for a short beard and stubble, but not for a full beard. There's no detail trimmer. Philips gives up to 5 years' warranty with registration.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Range | 0.5-10 mm |
| Step | 0.5 mm, 20 settings |
| Blades | self-sharpening, rounded tips |
| Battery | up to 60 min, 4 h charge |
| Waterproof | 100% |
| Warranty | up to 5 years with registration |
| Price | 27.70 € |
Pros: lowest price, rounded tips gentle on skin, waterproof, long warranty.
Cons: only up to 10 mm, slow charging, no detail trimmer.
Our opinion: The BT3619 is enough for 3-day stubble and a short beard. If you plan to grow a longer beard, get the BT5765.
Conclusion: which beard trimmers to choose?
All in all, beard trimmers don't have to be expensive: for most men the best choice is the Philips BT7670 at 75.00 euros, and under 50 euros the Philips BT5765 with the same 0.2 mm precision. For the most accessories and longest battery there's the Braun BT9560, and for a full beard longer than 2 cm the Panasonic ER-GB86. All beard trimmers in this comparison make a good gift, but check whether the recipient has a short or long beard.

Frequently asked questions
Trimmer or shaver?
A trimmer cuts the beard to a set length using combs and never shaves as close to the skin as a shaver. For a beard and a few days' stubble you need a trimmer, for a smooth face a shaver. Some trimmers, like the Braun BT7525, also have a small shaver head for edges.
Which length for 3-day stubble?
Braun suggests 1 to 3 mm for neat stubble, and Philips gives the lowest setting of 0.4 to 0.5 mm for 3-day stubble. Start with a longer setting and go down in small steps until you get the look you want.
Can a trimmer be used in the shower?
The Braun BT9560 and BT7525 and the Philips BT3619, BT5765 and BT7670 are waterproof and can be used in the shower and rinsed under the tap. The Panasonic and Remington have washable bodies, so rinse them, but check the manual before using them in the shower.
Does a trimmer need oil?
Philips's self-sharpening metal blades don't need oil. For trimmers without self-sharpening blades, Wahl advises 1 to 2 drops of blade oil about once a month. After every use, brush the blades or rinse them if the trimmer is waterproof.
Which trimmer for sensitive skin?
The Philips BT3619 with its rounded blade tips, or the Remington MB4700, which according to its Amazon title was Stiftung Warentest's test winner for skin gentleness. For ingrown hairs, trimming to 0.5 to 1 mm instead of shaving smooth helps.
How do I shape the neckline?
Braun advises a line two fingers above the Adam's apple. As a rough guide, imagine lines from the earlobes meeting there. Trim everything below that line without a comb or shave it. If you've cut too high, let it grow back for a few days.
How we chose
We chose beard trimmers based on length range and step, blade type, battery and charging, waterproofing, accessories, warranty and price. We looked at 10 models available on Amazon.de and checked every ASIN through the Amazon API. The data comes from Philips and Braun pages and Amazon.de descriptions, and the advice on length, lines and skin from Braun, Philips, Wahl, the American Academy of Dermatology and University of Iowa Hospitals. We left out the Philips OneBlade and Multigroom, which we already compare in our articles on shavers and hair clippers. Prices are live Amazon.de prices on 2 November 2026. We didn't physically test the trimmers.
