Ice bath tubs are insulated foldable or inflatable tubs in which you sit shoulder-deep in cold water at home, on a terrace or in the garden, usually with ice or a chiller. This guide is for healthy adults, recreational athletes and sportspeople who want to try ice baths or do them regularly and don't know which tub to buy. The best ice bath tubs 2027 on Amazon.de are the VEVOR 85 cm as the cheapest way in, the Bestway Lay-Z-Spa Glacial Dip as a stable tub with filtration and the NETSPA Ice Bath UFC with a chiller as the premium set. We compared seven models with live prices as of 26 October 2026, from 53 to 1,349 euros.
Important before you buy: ice baths aren't for everyone. Harvard Health advises anyone with a heart condition, high blood pressure, diabetes or poor circulation to check with a doctor first. We'd add pregnancy and any chronic illness to that list.

Safety first
Before you order ice bath tubs, know that cold water isn't harmless even at "only" 10 to 15 °C. According to the US National Weather Service (NWS), sudden immersion can trigger involuntary gasping, rapid breathing and a sudden spike in heart rate and blood pressure, and cold shock can be as severe and dangerous at 10 to 15 °C as at 2 °C. A review by Shattock and Tipton (2012) describes how full submersion in cold water, with the head under, can frequently trigger heart rhythm disturbances even in healthy volunteers. The authors suggest the cause is cold shock and the diving reflex, which kicks in when the face goes under, acting at the same time.
Our basic rules (our own recommendations, not study values):
- Don't put your head or face under. Sit so your head and neck always stay above water.
- Don't do it alone, at least the first few times. Have someone nearby.
- Get in slowly and breathe calmly for the first 30 to 60 seconds until the shock passes.
- Start short, with a minute or two, and build up gradually.
- Get out immediately if you feel dizzy, chest pain, numbness or heavy shivering.
The NHS advises people with Raynaud's to avoid cold and sudden changes in temperature. An ice bath is exactly that, so we advise them against it. If you have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes or poor circulation, talk to a doctor first. You can also track your blood pressure at home, and our guide to blood pressure monitors covers the options.
How to choose an ice bath tub
Foldable, inflatable or with a chiller. Ice bath tubs come in three basic designs. Foldable tubs of insulated fabric on a frame are the cheapest and fit in a bag. Inflatable and drop-stitch tubs have stiffer walls and often insulate better. A tub with a chiller holds the set temperature on its own, so you don't buy ice, but it costs over a thousand euros.
Volume and height. For a shoulder-deep bath you need a tub of roughly 250 to 400 L. Watch the depth: the 253 L Bestway Glacial Dip holds at most 60 cm of water, so tall people won't get their shoulders under. A reclining tub like the Bestway FortiFiber suits them better.
Insulation and lid. With any ice bath tub, insulation decides how much ice you use. The better insulated the tub and lid, the slower the ice melts. Eishelden states five insulating layers, and the Bestway FortiFiber and NETSPA have thermal lids with clips.
Drain and filtration. Ice bath tubs without filtration need emptying and refilling more often. Both Bestway models have a 1,249 L/h filter pump, so the water stays clean longer.
Ice or chiller. With ice you need to buy or freeze several kilos of ice for each bath, depending on the tap water and outdoor temperature. If you take ice baths several times a week, a chiller is more practical, but also the biggest cost.
1. VEVOR 85 cm
Photo: VEVOR, Amazon
The VEVOR is a foldable tub 85 cm across and 75 cm tall, with a 330 L volume. According to the Amazon listing it's made for people up to 2.1 m tall and has a multi-layer wall of PVC and foam, an inflatable top ring as a headrest, a water-filled cushion as a seat and an insulated lid. At 53 euros it's the cheapest tub in the comparison.
It has two drains, one at the bottom and one on the side with a hose, and comes with a carry bag. It's also available in smaller (80 cm) and larger (90 cm) versions. No thermometer is listed, and the inflatable ring is a part that can puncture.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Type | foldable |
| Dimensions | Ø 85 x 75 cm |
| Volume | 330 L |
| Insulation | multi-layer PVC and foam |
| Lid | insulated |
| Price | 52.90 € |
Pros: lowest price, three sizes, two drains, insulated lid and bag included.
Cons: inflatable ring can puncture, no thermometer listed, little durability data.
Our opinion: If you just want to try ice baths, the VEVOR is the cheapest way to find out whether they suit you. Add a water thermometer.
2. Eishelden Premium XL
Photo: Eishelden, Amazon
Eishelden is a brand specialising in ice baths, and the Premium XL is an 80 cm foldable tub of thick fabric with five insulating layers. According to the Amazon listing it has an all-weather lid, side and bottom drains, and sets up in under five minutes.
The listing doesn't give the tub's height or volume. Eishelden also sells its own chiller and a water treatment product, so this is a good choice if you plan to upgrade within the same brand later.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Type | foldable |
| Diameter | 80 cm |
| Insulation | 5 layers |
| Drain | side and bottom |
| Setup | under 5 min |
| Price | 89.99 € |
Pros: five insulating layers, two drains, quick setup, brand with its own chiller for a later upgrade.
Cons: height and volume not stated, no thermometer listed, round shape limits position.
Our opinion: For 37 euros more than the VEVOR you get a tub with five insulating layers, and the better it insulates, the less ice you use. If you take ice baths regularly, that difference makes sense.
3. Bestway Lay-Z-Spa Glacial Dip
Photo: Bestway, Amazon
The Bestway Lay-Z-Spa Glacial Dip is a 253 L tub on a corrosion-resistant steel frame, measuring 90 x 80 cm. According to the Amazon listing it has three-layer TriTech material, a 1,249 L/h filter pump, a cover and GS and DEKRA certification.
The filter pump means you don't have to change the water after every bath. The steel frame with the FrameLink system gives it a stability that fabric foldable tubs without a rigid frame lack. Maximum water depth is 60 cm, so tall people won't get their shoulders under, and the cover isn't insulating.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Type | steel frame |
| Dimensions | 90 x 80 cm, water up to 60 cm |
| Volume | 253 L |
| Filtration | 1,249 L/h pump |
| Certification | GS, DEKRA |
| Price | 110.00 € |
Pros: filter pump included, stable steel frame, well-known brand with certification.
Cons: only 60 cm deep, smaller volume, cover isn't insulating.
Our opinion: If the tub stays in the garden all season, filtration saves you a lot of water and work. If you're taller than average, look at the reclining FortiFiber.
4. Lifepro Cold Plunge Tub
Photo: Lifepro, Amazon
The Lifepro Cold Plunge Tub is an inflatable tub of 92.5 gallons, about 350 L, with a lid, drain valve and carry bag. Lifepro is a US fitness equipment maker, and according to the Amazon listing the tub has a lifetime warranty.
The listing gives neither dimensions nor the number of insulating layers, and the manufacturer says it's for outdoor use only. At 137 euros it costs more than comparable foldable tubs, so the main reason to buy it is the warranty.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Type | inflatable |
| Volume | about 350 L |
| Lid | yes |
| Use | outdoors only (per listing) |
| Warranty | lifetime (per listing) |
| Price | 137.15 € |
Pros: lifetime warranty, large volume, known fitness brand.
Cons: outdoor use only, dimensions and insulation not stated, pricier than similar foldable tubs.
Our opinion: If it matters to you that the tub lasts and that someone stands behind it, the Lifepro is a sensible choice. Read the warranty terms before buying.
5. Bestway FortiFiber Glacial Dip
Photo: Bestway, Amazon
The Bestway FortiFiber Glacial Dip is an elongated inflatable tub measuring 152 x 92 x 71 cm with a 420 L volume. Its elongated shape allows a reclining position, so it suits tall people. According to the Amazon listing it has a FortiFiber internal structure, an insulating thermal cover with clips, a 1,249 L/h filter pump and a hand pump.
A large volume also means more ice: 420 L is harder to cool than 250 L. The tub takes more space and needs inflating, but it's the only tub in the comparison under 300 euros with both filtration and a thermal lid.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Type | reclining, inflatable |
| Dimensions | 152 x 92 x 71 cm |
| Volume | 420 L |
| Filtration | 1,249 L/h pump |
| Lid | thermal cover with clips |
| Price | 268.00 € |
Pros: reclining position for tall people, filtration and insulated lid, large volume, DEKRA certification.
Cons: needs more ice, takes more space, needs inflating.
Our opinion: If you're tall and can't get your shoulders under in a round tub, the FortiFiber is the answer. Plan on more ice.
6. NETSPA Jarvi
Photo: NETSPA, Amazon
The NETSPA Jarvi (SP-JRV300) is a 300 L drop-stitch tub measuring 170 x 92 x 67 cm. Drop-stitch gives stiff, flat walls and floor, similar to SUP boards. According to the Amazon listing it has a thermal lid with safety clips, an antibacterial cartridge and a 32 mm connection kit for a chiller or circulation pump.
It's a tub for people who cool with ice today and want to add a chiller tomorrow without buying a new tub. Without a chiller it's an expensive ice tub, and NETSPA is a lesser-known brand.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Type | drop-stitch, inflatable |
| Dimensions | 170 x 92 x 67 cm |
| Volume | 300 L |
| Connection | D32 mm for chiller |
| Lid | thermal, with clips |
| Price | 499.00 € |
Pros: stiff drop-stitch walls, chiller-ready, thermal lid with clips, elongated 170 cm shape.
Cons: without a chiller it's cooled only with ice, pricier than foldable tubs, lesser-known brand.
Our opinion: The Jarvi only makes sense if you're seriously planning a chiller. For ice, the Bestway FortiFiber costs about half and has filtration.
7. NETSPA Ice Bath UFC + Chiller
Photo: NETSPA, Amazon
The NETSPA Ice Bath UFC (SP-UFC301-CK5) is a set of a 320 L drop-stitch tub and a chiller. According to the Amazon title the unit holds water between 3 and 40 °C, so it can also heat. The tub has a thermal cover and an antibacterial cartridge, and an inflation pump and connection kit are included.
A chiller means no ice to buy and the same water temperature every day. The listing doesn't clearly state the power consumption or noise, and the "5 kW" in the title isn't explained. Plan for an outdoor socket and a spot sheltered from rain.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Type | drop-stitch tub + chiller |
| Volume | 320 L |
| Dimensions | 170 x 67 x 92 cm |
| Temperature | 3-40 °C (per title) |
| Filtration | antibacterial cartridge |
| Price | 1,349.00 € |
Pros: tub and chiller in one set, constant temperature without ice, can also heat.
Cons: most expensive option, chiller consumption and noise not clearly stated, needs power and outdoor space.
Our opinion: A chiller set only pays off if you take ice baths almost every day and know you'll keep going. To start, get a cheap tub and ice.
What the research says
Temperature and duration. A meta-analysis by Machado et al. (2016) concluded that water of 11 to 15 °C and immersion of 11 to 15 minutes can give the best results for muscle soreness. In the studies cited by Harvard Health, water was about 7 to 15 °C and duration ranged from 30 seconds to 15 minutes. Our advice: beginners should start much shorter.
Recovery. The Cochrane review by Bleakley et al. (2012) found some evidence that ice baths reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness compared with rest, but the quality of evidence is low and most studies didn't systematically monitor side effects. Machado describes ice baths as "slightly better" than passive recovery.
Muscle growth. A small study by Roberts et al. (2015) of 21 men showed that in those who took a 10-minute ice bath after every strength session for 12 weeks, strength and muscle mass grew less than with active recovery. If muscle mass is your goal, don't take an ice bath right after strength training.
Other claims. Harvard Health says there's no consistent evidence that ice baths improve mood or immunity. A review by Tipton et al. (2017) warns that some claims about the benefits of cold water are still at the level of anecdote.
Ice bath tubs aren't the only route to recovery. There are other tools too, such as massage guns and foam rollers.
Conclusion
The best ice bath tubs 2027 differ in cooling method and price. To try it out, the 53-euro VEVOR is enough, and the better-insulated Eishelden Premium XL pays off with regular use. The Bestway Glacial Dip adds filtration and stability, the FortiFiber is for tall people, and the NETSPA Ice Bath UFC with a chiller is for those who take ice baths almost daily. Whichever tub you buy, safety matters more than the gear: not alone, not with your head under, and not without talking to a doctor if you have heart, circulation or blood pressure problems.

Frequently asked questions
What is the ideal ice bath temperature?
The 2016 meta-analysis by Machado et al. found the best results for muscle soreness at 11 to 15 °C. Harvard Health notes that studies used temperatures of about 7 to 15 °C. Colder water didn't give better results in that analysis, and warmer water doesn't protect you from cold shock either: according to the NWS it can be strong at 10 to 15 °C.
How long should you stay in an ice bath?
In studies, duration ranged from 30 seconds to 15 minutes, and Machado reports the best results at 11 to 15 minutes. Beginners should start with a minute or two and build up gradually. Get out immediately if you feel dizzy, chest pain or heavy shivering.
Are ice baths dangerous?
They can be. Cold shock causes a sudden rise in heart rate and blood pressure and hyperventilation, and with the head under, heart rhythm disturbances can occur even in healthy people. Don't put your head under, don't do it alone, and talk to a doctor before your first bath if you have a chronic condition.
Who shouldn't take ice baths?
Harvard Health advises people with heart conditions, high blood pressure, diabetes or poor circulation to check with a doctor first. People with Raynaud's should avoid sudden temperature changes. In pregnancy or with any chronic illness, make the decision with your doctor.
Do I need a chiller or is ice enough?
For occasional use, ice and a well-insulated tub with a lid are enough. If you take ice baths several times a week, a chiller saves buying ice and holds a constant temperature, but sets cost over a thousand euros. Ice bath tubs like the NETSPA Jarvi let you add a chiller later.
Do ice baths help post-workout recovery?
The 2012 Cochrane review found some evidence that they reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness, but with low-quality evidence. Roberts et al. (2015) showed that regular ice baths right after strength training can slow muscle growth. The effect is modest and depends on your goal.
