Good frying pans make the difference between eggs that slide onto the plate and eggs stuck to the bottom. We compared seven pans on Amazon.de, each in a different material: non-stick coating, ceramic, stainless steel, carbon steel and cast iron. The best value is the Tefal Unlimited On at 49.99 EUR, the longest-lasting coating is the Fissler Adamant at 76.51 EUR, and the pan for life with no coating at all is the de Buyer Mineral B at 49.77 EUR. We checked prices on 28 September 2026.

This article is for anyone replacing a scratched pan or buying their first good one, and for those worried about PTFE and the planned PFAS ban in the EU. It covers single frying pans only. If you want a complete set, see our cookware sets.

Which frying pan material to choose

Frying pans with a non-stick coating (Fissler Adamant, Tefal) are easiest for eggs, pancakes and fish, but the coating wears over time. Ceramic pans such as GreenPan contain no PTFE or PFAS, but according to the maker need low to medium heat. Stainless steel, carbon steel and cast iron have no coating to wear out and handle high heat, but need more skill or care.

The big question is PTFE, known as Teflon, which chemically belongs to the PFAS group. According to Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), no health effects are expected from normal use of PTFE pans. The coating only breaks down above about 360 °C, so such a pan should never be heated empty on high heat.

PFOA, a substance once used in making coatings, has been largely banned in the EU since July 2020 under Regulation (EU) 2019/1021, according to the BfR. A restriction for the whole PFAS group is being prepared: according to the European Commission, ECHA is due to deliver its final assessment by the end of 2026, and only then will a proposal follow. There is no ban on PTFE pans in the EU yet.

1. Fissler Adamant Classic 28 cm

Fissler Adamant Classic 28 cm non-stick frying pan Photo: Fissler, Amazon

Check on Amazon

Among coated frying pans, if you want one that will last a long time, the Fissler Adamant is the best choice. The coating is a water-based PTFE with silicon carbide particles, and Fissler gives a five-year warranty. The interior has no rivets, so it is easy to clean.

According to Fissler, the pan has a 20.5 cm base 6 mm thick, weighs 1.229 kg and is dishwasher-safe. The CookStar base works on all hobs including induction. The handle is plastic, and Fissler does not state that the pan can go in the oven. It costs 76.51 EUR on Amazon.de against a recommended 109 EUR. It is made in Germany.

Specification Detail
Diameter 28 cm (base 20.5 cm, capacity 2.6 L)
Material aluminium, PTFE with silicon carbide
Induction yes (CookStar base)
Dishwasher yes
Weight 1.229 kg
Price 76.51 € (5-year warranty)

Pros: five-year warranty, smooth rivet-free interior, made in Germany, 30% below the recommended price.

Cons: not for the oven, more expensive than a Tefal with a similar coating, contains PTFE.

Our opinion: For everyday eggs, pancakes and vegetables, this is a pan you will not need to replace for at least five years, as long as the warranty. Keep it away from metal utensils and high heat and it will last.

2. Tefal Unlimited On 28 cm (G25906)

Tefal Unlimited On 28 cm frying pan with Thermo-Signal Photo: Tefal, Amazon

Check on Amazon

Among frying pans for most households, the Tefal Unlimited On offers the best value. According to Tefal's internal test, the Titanium 6X coating lasts six times longer than Tefal's standard coating, and the Thermo-Signal red circle shows when the pan has reached the ideal temperature. That helps beginners, who often put food into a pan that is too cold or overheated.

The deeper rim makes it good for sauces and risotto too, and the Thermo-Fusion base works on all hobs including induction. It is made in France. The model is no longer on Tefal's German website, so we could not confirm the oven and dishwasher information. On Amazon.de it costs 49.99 EUR against a recommended 68.99 EUR.

Specification Detail
Diameter 28 cm, deeper rim
Material aluminium, Titanium 6X PTFE
Extra Thermo-Signal temperature indicator
Induction yes (Thermo-Fusion base)
Oven and dishwasher not confirmed
Price 49.99 €

Pros: the best value among premium PTFE pans, Thermo-Signal for beginners, made in France, deeper rim for sauces.

Cons: the model is no longer on Tefal's website, oven and dishwasher not confirmed, plastic handle.

Our opinion: If you do not want to overthink it, take this one. For 50 EUR you get a pan for eggs, pancakes, vegetables and sauces.

3. GreenPan Valencia Pro 28 cm

GreenPan Valencia Pro 28 cm PFAS-free ceramic frying pan Photo: GreenPan, Amazon

Check on Amazon

For anyone who wants coated frying pans without PTFE and PFAS, the GreenPan Valencia Pro is the best choice. The Thermolon ceramic coating is diamond-reinforced, the body is hard-anodised aluminium and the Magneto base works on induction. Unlike most coated pans, it can go in the oven up to 220 °C and in the dishwasher.

Ceramic loses its non-stick properties faster than PTFE over time, and the warranty reflects that. According to GreenPan, the warranty is lifetime for material defects but only two years on the ceramic coating. GreenPan advises low to medium heat and no spray oil. The handle is stainless steel and gets hot. On Amazon.de it costs 75.00 EUR.

Specification Detail
Diameter 28 cm
Material hard-anodised aluminium, Thermolon ceramic, PFAS-free
Induction yes (Magneto base)
Oven up to 220 °C (per GreenPan, same model 30 cm)
Dishwasher yes
Price 75.00 €

Pros: no PTFE or PFAS, oven-safe to 220 °C and dishwasher-safe, light, heats quickly.

Cons: ceramic loses non-stick properties faster, only a 2-year warranty on the coating, the steel handle gets hot.

Our opinion: If the PFAS debate worries you, this is the best alternative to Teflon. Follow the temperature guidance, because ceramic does not forgive overheating.

4. Fissler Original-Profi Collection 28 cm

Check on Amazon

Stainless steel frying pans have no coating to wear out, and the Fissler Original-Profi is a pan you do not replace. The 18/10 steel has a textured Novogrill cooking surface, a 7 mm base and an internal measuring scale. It goes in the oven up to 230 °C and in the dishwasher, and Fissler gives a 15-year warranty.

According to Fissler, the pan weighs 1.845 kg and holds 3 L. It is best for seared steaks and sauces made from the browned bits on the bottom. Food sticks if the pan is not properly preheated before adding oil, so eggs and pancakes are not its strong point. It costs 109.00 EUR on Amazon.de and 169 EUR in Fissler's shop.

Specification Detail
Diameter 28 cm (base 22.5 cm, capacity 3 L)
Material stainless steel 18/10, Novogrill surface
Oven up to 230 °C
Dishwasher yes
Weight 1.845 kg
Price 109.00 € (15-year warranty)

Pros: no coating to wear out, 15-year warranty, oven-safe to 230 °C and dishwasher-safe, 60 EUR cheaper than in Fissler's shop.

Cons: food sticks if the pan is not properly preheated, the most expensive in the selection, not for eggs and pancakes.

Our opinion: For those who love steaks and high-heat cooking, this is a pan for decades. For morning eggs, you will want a coated pan alongside it.

5. de Buyer Mineral B 28 cm

de Buyer Mineral B 28 cm carbon steel frying pan Photo: de Buyer, Amazon

Check on Amazon

Carbon steel is lighter than cast iron and reacts faster to temperature changes, and the de Buyer Mineral B is the French classic of this kind. The pan is 99% iron and 1% carbon, 3 mm thick, with no coating at all and protected by beeswax. After seasoning it becomes non-stick and keeps getting better.

According to de Buyer, it weighs 2.18 kg, works on all hobs including induction and can go in the oven only briefly, at most about 200 °C for up to 10 minutes, because of the epoxy-coated handle. It must not go in the dishwasher and does not like acidic dishes at first. It handles high heat, so it is excellent for steaks and potatoes. It costs 49.77 EUR on Amazon.de and is made in France.

Specification Detail
Diameter 28 cm (cooking surface about 21 cm)
Material carbon steel, 3 mm, no coating
Induction yes
Oven briefly, about 200 °C for up to 10 minutes
Dishwasher no
Price 49.77 € (2.18 kg)

Pros: no coating at all, non-stick after seasoning, handles high heat, lighter than cast iron.

Cons: needs seasoning and oiling, no dishwasher, only briefly in the oven.

Our opinion: If you are ready for the first seasoning and a little oiling, you get a pan for life for 50 EUR. If not, take the Tefal.

6. Lodge Classic L8SK3 26 cm

Lodge Classic L8SK3 26 cm cast iron frying pan Photo: Lodge, Amazon

Check on Amazon

Cast iron frying pans hold heat very well, and Lodge is the cheapest way to get one. The Classic L8SK3 is 26 cm, pre-seasoned with vegetable oil and ready to use straight away. It is all cast iron, so it goes in the oven, on the grill and on the fire with no limits.

According to Lodge, it weighs 2.57 kg, works on all hobs including induction and contains no PFAS. Lodge has no 28 cm pan, and the next size up, 30 cm, weighs 3.5 kg. It needs care like all cast iron: hand washing, drying and oil. It costs 42.25 EUR on Amazon.de. If you like cast iron, see also our cast iron Dutch ovens.

Specification Detail
Diameter 26 cm, height 5.1 cm
Material cast iron, pre-seasoned
Use all hobs, oven, grill, fire
Dishwasher no
Weight 2.57 kg
Price 42.25 €

Pros: the cheapest pan for life, oven and grill with no limits, holds heat very well, pre-seasoned.

Cons: heavy and the handle gets hot, only 26 cm, needs oiling and rusts if left wet.

Our opinion: For a steak that goes straight from the pan into the oven, the Lodge is hard to beat on price. For quick everyday cooking it is too heavy.

7. Tefal Start'Easy 28 cm (C26706)

Tefal Start'Easy budget 28 cm induction frying pan Photo: Tefal, Amazon

Check on Amazon

For a first flat, a holiday home or a second pan just for eggs, you do not need to spend much. The Tefal Start'Easy at 27.97 EUR has a Titanium coating, Thermo-Signal and a Thermo-Fusion base that works on induction. It can go in the oven up to 175 °C and is very light, about 0.7 kg according to Amazon.

The material is thinner, so it holds heat less well, and the coating wears faster than the premium Titanium 6X and Fissler's Adamant. The rivets inside are harder to clean. According to the Amazon listing, it is dishwasher-safe, but hand washing is recommended.

Specification Detail
Diameter 28 cm
Material aluminium, Titanium PTFE
Induction yes (Thermo-Fusion base)
Oven up to 175 °C
Weight about 0.7 kg
Price 27.97 €

Pros: the cheapest induction pan in the selection, very light, Thermo-Signal even at budget level, oven-safe to 175 °C.

Cons: thinner material holds heat less well, the coating wears faster, rivets inside.

Our opinion: For a student flat or holiday home this is a sensible choice. For your main kitchen pan, it is worth paying 22 EUR more for the Unlimited On.

Frequently asked questions

Are Teflon (PTFE) pans dangerous and will they be banned?

Germany's BfR says no health effects are expected from normal use of PTFE pans. The problem is overheating an empty pan above about 360 °C. PFOA has been largely banned in the EU since 2020. A restriction for the whole PFAS group is still being prepared, and there is no ban on PTFE pans yet.

How long does a coated frying pan last?

Manufacturers do not give an exact number of years, but the warranty is a good guide: the Fissler Adamant has five years, and GreenPan guarantees its ceramic coating for two years. The coating is damaged most by overheating and sharp objects. Fissler recommends wooden or plastic utensils and heating at no more than two-thirds of the hob's power.

How do I season a carbon steel or cast iron pan?

De Buyer advises rinsing off the beeswax with hot water, heating the pan with a thin layer of oil until it smokes, and letting it cool. For cast iron, Lodge advises a very thin layer of oil inside and out and baking it upside down for an hour at 230 to 260 °C.

Why does food stick to a stainless steel pan?

Usually because the pan is not hot enough. Zwilling advises heating a steel pan slowly on medium before adding oil and recommends a water test: if the drops just evaporate, the pan is too cold, and when they gather into balls that dance, the temperature is right. On induction, do not use Boost.

Do all frying pans work on induction?

All the pans in this selection work on induction. The coated aluminium ones have a ferromagnetic base, while stainless steel, carbon steel and cast iron are magnetic by nature. Fissler advises placing the pan on a zone of the same or slightly smaller size, because on a larger zone it heats poorly or not at all.

Can a frying pan go in the dishwasher?

It depends on the material. The Fissler Original-Profi, Fissler Adamant and GreenPan Valencia Pro can go in the dishwasher, and the Tefal Start'Easy can too, although the maker recommends hand washing. The de Buyer Mineral B and Lodge must never go in the dishwasher, because it strips the protective oil layer and causes rust.

What size frying pan is best?

For a family of three to four, 28 cm is standard. The 28 cm Fissler Adamant has a 20.5 cm base and recommends a 21 cm hob zone. For one or two people, 24 cm is enough. With cast iron, also consider weight: the 26 cm Lodge weighs 2.57 kg, and the 30 cm already 3.5 kg.

How we tested and chose

We looked at more than 20 frying pans on Amazon.de and chose seven so that each represents a different material or price range. We avoided pans that are part of the sets in our cookware sets article and models with unclear or wrong listings. We looked at material, coating, induction, oven use, dishwasher, weight, warranty and price, and for PTFE and PFAS we used BfR and European Commission sources.

We took specifications from manufacturers' websites (Fissler, GreenPan, de Buyer, Lodge) and Amazon.de, and prices are from Amazon.de on 28 September 2026. We did not physically test the frying pans. For the Tefal Unlimited On and Start'Easy, data comes only from Amazon, because we found no official Tefal page for them.
